Bill Fredericks, for Village Trustee

Bill’s Long History in Bronxville
Bill grew up in Bronxville, attended the Bronxville school for 9 years, and returned in 1997 with his wife Ivy and children Charlotte and Thomas. He is active in numerous other community activities, including as a trustee of the Bronxville Historical Conservancy, and treasurer of the Bronxville-Tuckahoe-Eastchester Nature Preserve.

About William C. (“Bill”) Fredericks

Bill Fredericks is running for a second full term on the Village Board of Trustees, after being appointed to fill a vacancy in September 2020.  Previously, Bill had been a member (2009-13) and chair (2013-2020) of the Village’s Zoning Board. As Trustee:

  • Bill has supported “walkability” improvements across the Village, and pushed for passage of the recently-enacted 25 mph maximum speed limit law for Village streets (which will go into effect in September 2023).
  • Using his zoning experience, Bill led a 2-year effort to comprehensively review and reform the Village’s zoning laws, so that (among other things) they now require better notice to neighbors of proposed construction projects, and subject all proposed “teardowns and rebuilds” to at least some review.
  • Bill has backed the Village Green Committee’s successful efforts to enact limits on the use of noisy, gas-powered leaf blowers; to create a food scraps recycling program; and to take steps that, in just a year, have enabled Bronxville to reach Bronze certification under NY’s “Climate Smart Communities” program.

While Bill believes that the main task of Village government is to maintain high levels of basic services (including in our excellent Police and DPW departments) and ensuring responsible upkeep of key infrastructure (e.g. our sewage and stormwater drainage systems), areas for further attention in the next two years include:  building on recent efforts to get additional state and federal help to address Bronx River flooding problems; acting to better preserve Bronxville’s “leafy” qualities, including through public/private partnerships to help fund planting of more hardwood trees; and reviewing Bronxville’s existing rules and standards for outdoor dining.

An attorney, Bill specializes in complex litigation, and is listed in US News’ “America’s Best Lawyers” (for commercial litigation) and New York’s “SuperLawyers” listings. He has a J.D. from Columbia University (where he won four law school prizes); an M. Litt. from Oxford University (Eng.), and a B.A. (with high honors) from Swarthmore College.
