Ruth was recently elected to her first term as County Legislator of District 15 (comprised of the Village of Bronxville and areas of North, East and West Yonkers).

Ruth grew up in Dobbs Ferry, the youngest of eight children. She is the daughter of a political speech writer and a public school teacher. From an early age, her parents taught her the importance of public service and giving back to others.

Ruth is a proud graduate of the Hackley School in Tarrytown and of Princeton University, where she received her BA. Ruth began her career as an investment analyst for a multinational investment firm. She later worked to coordinate technology operations for several companies, including leading Y2K digital readiness operations for a regional department store chain, and creating the digital systems and employee training as a local shop owner.

With her husband, Kevin, and two children, Andrew and Laura, Ruth opened a successful small business in 2009 called Dobbs & Bishop Fine Cheese, located on Pondfield Road in Bronxville. This experience has helped Ruth champion small business as the engine of new jobs and the backbone of local communities.

Ruth is a 14 year resident of the district. She lives in Bronxville with her family and has been involved in many civic organizations, including serving as President of the Bronxville Public Library Board of Trustees, serving as Clerk of the Bronxville Justice Court and volunteering with the PTA and Girl Scouts. Currently, Ruth is a member of Rotary Club of Bronxville and the Aquehung Women’s Democratic Club of Yonkers, among others. Ruth also volunteers at the Met Cloisters museum, giving tours on medieval art to schoolchildren across the region.

Ruth adopted two dogs, Pandy and Cupar, from the Yonkers Animal Shelter, which has been a joy for the whole family.

Legislator Walter looks forward to engaging residents across the district in improving the environment, supporting small businesses and helping families as we face the challenges of the 21st century together.
